In case you are not familiar, Leslie Sansone is the creator of the "World's #1 Indoor Walk Program". Many people love working out with her DVDs because the exercise programs do work well for them. I have owned a copy of her Leslie Sansone: Walk at Home - 5 Day Slim Down - A Mile Each Morning for about 3 years now. It helped me get started in losing about 50 pounds before my 3rd child, but I totally forgot about it until someone invited me to LIKE her page on Facebook. I was then encouraged to pull this DVD out of my archives as I have been seeing Leslie Sansone on the side bar of my Facebook ever since I liked her Facebook page. Since I am using this fitness DVD again, I thought that I would share my opinion with you.

Leslie Sansone 5 Day Slim Down Review

I am going to share my review of Leslie Sansone's 5 Day Slim Down dvd as you might find this exercise program beneficial to you during the winter months.

I personally have a problem getting it together to walk out of the home. My work load is up like crazy this time of the year and I do not always feel like getting cute to walk out in public. Plus, it becomes a pain in the butt because I have both the dog and the kids that want to walk with me. I love taking our baby on walks, but it is not quite the same experience for me because the baby is all over the place when out of the stroller and where I can walk outside is limited when I am pushing a stroller. I have to watch for cars, rocks kicked up, alligators are just a few feet from us, dogs in yards and sometimes the turkey vultures are intimidating. I do not mind taking our dog and / or my teen with me on walks as I can keep up the pace while I walk on the main road. Regardless, I had a flashing thought this weekend and it keeps haunting me. My 13 year old is around the size that I was all the up until I had my first child and then when I lost the weight after my 1st child. In fact, he is a bit bigger thicker than I was at those times. I am just not meant to be this big and was like 2 pant sizes smaller when I was walking 2 miles a day last year. So, the combination between seeing Leslie Sansone online and the need to get back into a fitness routine has motivated me. Plus, walking at home is ideal for so many people in cold weather states this time of the year.

Breakdown of Leslie Sansone Walk At Home 5 Day Slim Down

Leslie Sansone's 5 Day Slim Down DVD is perfect for people at all fitness levels. As I started doing it again, I realized that it is exactly what I needed to "get back into the swing of things" in comparison to jumping into a high impact aerobics class or doing Zumba at home. The 5 Day Slim Down is broken down into a mile for each morning (or she suggests that you do the workout before dinner). Here is how it works:

There are four 14 minute routines and one 12 minute walking routine, so that you can walk a mile a day for 5 days a week. Yet, each day has a unique walking routine that targets a specific area of the body.

Day 1: Classic Walk (14 minutes)

Day 2: Sculpt Your Arms (14 minutes)

Day 3: Slim Your Legs (14 minutes)

Day 4: Trim Your Tummy (14 minutes)

Day 5: Speed Walk (12 monutes)

Or you can choose to do a full 5 mile workout that is a combination of these. Each of the short, daily, walking routines are one mile long. There is a 5 minute Warm Up Walk to do before you start any one of the daily walk at home routines and there is a 9 minute Cool Down Walk & Stretch for after your routine.

This is less than a 1/2 hour work out routine per day with the mile getting done in 12 to 14 minutes each time. If you know anything about walking goals (time per mile), you will understand that this is actually faster than the average time it takes to walk a mile. The average person takes 20 minutes to walk a mile briskly. This does not include times needed to get your muscles warmed up and heart prepared to work out, as well as gradually slowing down your heart rate and stretching out the muscles after the walk. It makes Leslie Sansone's 5 Day Slim Down a bit more time effective for those who are trying to find time to exercise regularly. This also applies to those who want / need the convenience of exercises at home.

Positive features of each walk at home work out:

Leslie Sansone is energetic, motivational and comes across as a personable instructor that you would want to work out with outside of the home.

Each move / position is easy to understand because she is clear in her motions and instructions to the viewer. Plus, they are the standard types of exercise moves that are done at both beginner and advanced levels such as marching, forward leg kicks, side steps, incorporation of arm moves.

Leslie Sansone does very well at transitioning the viewer into new walking exercises. She is not winded while speaking, she is mindful to point out timing, she repeats each move enough times (reps) to have influence on your muscles and she reminds you to keep in beat to the music. Best of all, both upper and lower body are worked out with these walk at home exercises.

If done correctly, one does break a sweat with the 5 Day Slim Down just as they would during a brisk one to 5 mile walk (you get to choose). She helps build up heart rate, maintain and bring it down while giving the body the perfect stretch after the walk at home routines.

What I think she could have done better ...

Although her music does work very well with her walk at home routine, the music is basic / generic / elevator-ish and that might not appeal to someone expecting something a little more familiar or hip (i.e. Zumba, SoulCycle, Tracy Anderson, etc).

Additionally and equally, 5 Day Slim Down is not as exciting and high impact as some of the more trendier exercise DVDs of 2012, though it is still fun and effective.

I give Leslie Sansone: Walk at Home - 5 Day Slim Down - A Mile Each Morning a "thumbs up". It gets 4 stars in my book as it has been perfect in getting me back on track with wanting to work out and I do feel the burn walking from home with her.
